Classes

I am excited to announce I am teaching ongoing classes in my home kitchen located near the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle.  There is a maximum of eleven spaces so classes will be intimate in nature with plenty of opportunities to ask questions.  I treat my classes like a dinner party – with plenty of food, drink, and fun to be had – so come hungry, prepared to learn, and to also have a good time.  You do NOT need to know how to cook  or be a vegetarian to attend.

Since space is limited, be sure to sign up soon for the classes that interest you.  For more information, or to secure your spot, send me an email at danatreat [at] gmail [dot] com.

I am also available to teach private classes either in my home or yours.

UPDATE 1-24-12  I have gotten many requests for additional classes, so I have added two dates, one to the Seasonal Feast class and one to the Vegetarian Indian Cooking class.  They will go fast, so please send me an email to sign up.

February 15th 6:30-6:30pm  $65 – Class is full – email me to be put on the waiting list
February 16th 6:30-9:30pm  $65 – Class is full – email me to be put on the waiting list

While the Seattle summer farmers’ markets offer untold riches, there are still treasures to be found, even in the depths of winter.  In this class, we will celebrate the winter bounty with some warming and satisfying dishes.  We will start with my very favorite homemade crackers and end with an intoxicating bread pudding that is creamy, crunchy, and chocolaty all at once.  We will also make a Shepherd’s Pie that is filling and satisfying while still being nutritious.  And light!  Recipes will include:

Cheddar Crackers
Fig and Camembert Salad with Walnut Vinaigrette
Winter Vegetable Shepherd’s Pie
Roasted Beets with Horseradish Crème Fraiche
Mustard Braised Brussels Sprouts
Caramelized Bread Pudding with Chocolate and Cinnamon

As a vegetarian for the past 25 years, I have long looked to Indian food as a source of never ending surprises and tasty good-for-you food.  The problem is, in Seattle anyway, it is almost impossible to find Indian food that is fresh, light, and subtly spiced.  If I crave it, I make it.  Join me in my kitchen as we make some of my very favorite Indian recipes, mostly drawn inspired by our year in London.  Forget gloppy gravy-like dishes that weigh you down – you will be inspired by the incredible flavors, and lightness, of South Indian cooking.  Recipes will include:

Cucumber and Coconut Salad
Cauliflower and Potato Curry
Chickpeas and Chana Dal in Mint Sauce
Peas Pilau Rice
Spicy Raita
Orange and Ginger Chutney
Yogurt Flatbread
