Late Summer

August 26, 2011

I’m away from my desk, my kitchen, and my home.  I feel bad leaving you with a spotty August this year – just too many things going on in my life to post regularly.  But!  I did much better in past years so here is a little reminder of what late August can mean to you.  (For me, it seems to either mean travel or party food.)

Tortellini Skewers are great for any party.  I made these recently and I stuck a cherry tomato on there as well.

Little balls of food are always welcome at a party, especially if it is marinated mozzarella.

Eggplant Caponata is good for groups large and small.  Serve it with crackers, baguette slices, or your favorite carb.

These little cheese stuffed Peppadew peppers are one of my favorite things to make for gatherings large and small.  I always get raves and lots of comments about them.

If you are a CSA member, chances are you are getting a lot of chard and will get a lot of chard in the coming months.  This tart is a delicious way to make your way through those bushels.

  1. I loove the tortellini skewers. They look like a bouquet of flowers.

  3. Dana – I love your party food ideas! You once posted a recipe for dates stuffed with goat cheese, pistachio and chives that has become a staple at our parties.
For an amazing twist on tortellini skewers, I highly recommend a recipe from Andrea Chesman’s The Vegetarian Grill: Tortellini Kabobs with Roasted Tomato Dipping Sauce. Grilling the skewers adds a wonderful summery, smokey taste.

  4. Dana, I don’t mind at all these wrap ups of past posts… believe it or not, I had seen that chard tart, never bookmarked it, and NEVER found it again.

I was shocked to find it today in your blog! I should have remembered it right away… sooo, thanks for the wrap up, this time, I’m grabbing this beauty and saving it in my files! ;-)

  6. Dana, I am reminded again of the most delightful baby shower we had our home for one of our daughters and what a “hit” the tortelinni skewers were (after everyone realized it was something to eat and not a centerpiece!). These all look scrumptious! It is good to revisit favorites when life gets busy.

  9. I’m glad to hear someone else is having a spotty August. I feel part of a club now. And thanks for the prod on the chard tart – I made it last summer and we loved it. Now must make again with the chard in my fridge.
