The bread looks amazing and like the perfect snack! Though the fact that it was so sticky makes me wary to try it.

When I buy olivetta from Macrina, it looks pretty much like this! I'm not sure it's supposed to rise much more... maybe a more open crumb, but not much more height.

I must admit, some of the most tastiest breads look not so good. Have you played around with "Artisan bread in 5 minutes" book. I tell you the bread from there is so good but never looks that perfect. (maybe it's me?) Anyway, lovely post. Have a good mid winter's night.

Have you read the book By Bread Alone by Sarah Kate Lynch? Do. You'll love it. Of course you'll then need to read her book on Cheesmaking called Blessed are the CheeseMakers. Also wonderful!
Cheers,
SG
Looking forward to your posts on Cheese!

Well, it DOES look tasty. If you hadn't come clean, I would have thought it was flatbread.

i love your biscotti flatbread, dana! you might be onto to something here. i'm such fan of olives and hearty herbs in rustic breads too. and anything from macrina is surely worth a go. happy almost-weekend, xo.

Hey, kudos to you for sharing something that turned out not quite as you'd intended. There should be more imperfection on food blogs I think!

Also, it's not just you--we've tried to make the natural-yeast starter from the Macrina cookbook three times now, without success. There must be some extra special yeast strain floating around that bakery, because we just couldn't make it work at home.
